The day I got my portable CD Player - Klim - Nomad
It hit the step 1 day earlier than I expected. In this bright blue bubble mailer. Never seen a package that BLUE before.
The player arrived in the middle of preparing for a photoshoot (with Tymane’) so I didn't get a chance to play with it, but it I did open it up, it felt nice and slick, brand new (despite it being refurbished)
After hours of laughter, flashes of strobes, music, eating, concluding with dessert in a park with two baseball games going on (at the same time). My time was near.
Fresh out of a dark shower listening to Grimes’ album ‘Visions”, I decided to give the player a go. It’s simple, almost too simple. Bluetooth connection was easy, no real menu, just throw a CD in and press play. Simple. I chose ‘Two Rivers’ , an album by Ravi and Adrian Freedman (which I found at a thrift store, not ever hearing about these musicians) , threw it in, shut it, and started spinning and playing the music. A Japanese inspired classical album, the wind and string combination in the first track ‘Ramana’ is something for the ears. (eargasm)
Music playing, light off A.C on full blast. I felt something I hadn’t before, I felt like I was a kid again.
When It got hot, me and my brother would sleep in my mother’s room, we’d drag our mattresses and put them in the middle of the floor, side by side. I would very frequently bring my blue, slide up, Samsung phone or PSP (PlayStation Portable) in there along with the music I had saved on them. To listen I would use Skullcandy earbuds (Ink’d model). The black and red were my favorite. I would blast the music eventually tuning out the humming of the air conditioner. Primarily in my ear were the sounds of Drake, Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown. A lot of the rappers hot in the mid 2ks to mid 2010’s
With tears in my eyes I remember it so vividly, feel it, the time when I was a child. Who was I, am I to think that today, a decade and a half later I would be remembering a time so vividly as I stand just down the hall from where it took place. Where I grew up.
Even from a young age music has been a solace, an experience for me and while I was listening to Drake’s ‘Crew love’ back in the day; Now I have an evolved and widened experience with music which is beyond special to me.
